Mass United FC of the National Premier Soccer League will be taking on Oxford United of the English Football League 2 at 3pm on Saturday, July 16th. The game, part of a pre-season tour for Oxford United, will take place at Exeter High School (1 Blue Hawk Drive) in Exeter, NH. The Riders will have their final home date of the regular season the next day, July 17th, against the New York Red Bulls at Manning Field in Lynn, MA with a 2pm kickoff.
Oxford finished 12th in League 2 this past season, led by strikers James Constable (also the team captain), with 17 total goals, and Tom Craddock, who netted 14 of his own. Oxford has battled back from being relegated completely out of the conference a few years ago and is looking to not only maintain their place in League 2, but to recapture the glory days of years past when top-flight English football didn't seem so far away. More information on Oxford United can be found here.
This is an amazing opportunity not only for the players but for the fans as well so don't miss it. Tickets for the game are available through the Tickets section on Mass United's website and are $8 for Adults, $5 for Children under 16, and Children under the age of 5 are granted free admission. Please note there will not be any tickets available at the game. All tickets must be purchased beforehand.
05.08.11 Allan Thompson Passes Away
It is with a heavy heart that we relay the passing of Allan Thompson. Allan died on May 6 after a battle with lung cancer. Allan was one of the original founders of the Over-the-Hill Soccer League. He had been on the Board of Directors for the past 30 years and, most remarkably, he served as President for nearly 20 years. Allan oversaw the remarkable growth of the league and was passionate about its well-being. His years of service to the game as a player, coach, manager and league official were recognized in 1999 when he was elected to the MASS Soccer Hall of Fame. We have lost a dear friend of our game.
The funeral service is at Eugene McCarthy & Sons funeral home at 11 Lincoln Street in Framingham on Wednesday, May 11 at 10am.

10.07.10 US National Cups, 2010-2011
Preliminary MASS qualifying rounds for the USASA National Cup competitions start in early November 2010. The deadline to apply is Sunday, October 17. For details and application information, see the National Cups page.
09.16.10 2010 National Cups Wrap-Up
Oakford, PA - On Sunday, August 1st, at the United German Hungarian Club, four storied clubs added their names to the list of USASA National Cup champions with hard fought victories in one of the most competitive set of finals in quite some time. Only one final was decided by more than one goal and even that game (Women’s Cup) went into overtime after 90 minutes of scoreless play. At the end of the day, Ajax (Men’s O30), NYAC (Women’s), NY Pancyprians (Men’s Open) and Boston Olympiakos (Men’s Amateur) left Pennsylvania with first place trophies in hand and the title of National Champion attached to their clubs’ name in the USASA record books.
Men’s Over 30
Ajax (Missouri) recorded the first victory of the day, and their second one goal victory of the weekend, with a 1-0 scoreline over Kells FC (Oregon) in the Men’s Over 30 Cup. Ajax controlled the majority of the play early on, but Kells FC was not without chances and came close to equalizing on a couple of occasions in the waning minutes of the match. With the victory, Ajax became back-to-back champions in the Over 30 division. In fact, a number of players from Ajax were also members of the Scott Gallagher team that won the previous two Over 30 titles.
In semifinal action, Ajax beat perennial National Cup contender, Kickers (Florida), 3-2, in a classic, overtime thriller in order to reach Sunday’s final. Just hours earlier, Kells FC did their part by defeating United SC (Metro DC/Virginia) 1-0.
Women’s Cup
The Women’s Cup took off right where the Men’s Over 30 left off with strong back and forth play from both sides, NYAC (Eastern New York) and Dallas Premier (North Texas). The two national powers slugged it out for 90 scoreless, yet entertaining minutes before going into overtime. The scoresheet wouldn’t remain clean for long as NYAC got on the board a couple of minutes into overtime and would follow up with another just a few minutes later on their way to a 2-0 victory. This is NYAC’s second USASA National Cup title as they also won the Women’s Amateur Cup in 2008.
NYAC advanced through to the Women’s Cup final with a bye while Dallas Premier (also participants in the 2010 U23 National Cups) eked out a 3-2 win against a very solid Kentucky Wanderers (Kentucky) side.
Men’s Open Cup
The strong play continued when the Men’s Open finalists took the field. Following a weather delay, NY Pancyprians (Eastern New York) and Detroit United (Michigan) took the game to one another on their way to a 2-2 draw through regulation and overtime. NY Pancyprians took control during the Penalty Kicks and with a combination of good goalkeeping and errant shots, kept Detroit scoreless during the shootout. With the victory, NY Pancyprians picked up their fifth Men’s Open Cup title, including their second since USASA began determining its own champion in 1999.
With their bye, the NY Pancyprians awaited the victors of Friday night’s semifinal game between Detroit United and CASL Elite (North Carolina). Detroit went on to win 2-1, although CASL Elite was within inches of tying up the match in the last minute leading up to the final whistle.
Men’s Amateur Cup
Not to be outdone by the first three finals, Boston Olympiakos (Massachusetts) and Carpathia Kickers (Michigan) put on a show to conclude the day in the Men’s Amateur Cup final. In yet another back and forth match, Boston Olympiakos pulled out a 3-2 win in a tilt between two sides both playing for a second Men’s Amateur Cup trophy in their club’s history. Boston Olympiakos was victorious just a couple of years ago in 2007, while the Carpathia Kickers took home the hardware in 1962.
Olympiakos reached the final with a convincing 4-0 win over Olympic Club (California North). Carpathia, meanwhile, put in one more on their way to a 5-0 victory over Barracudas FC (Texas South). Barracudas FC was making their second straight appearance in the semifinal round of the Men’s Amateur Cup.

Former Region I Deputy Director Fritz Marth was elected USASA's Region I Director passing the title onto Anthony Falcone from Maryland who was voted as Region I Deputy Director. John Kahmke is the new Region I Secretary, position previously held by Matthew Krywonos.
Region II elected Bill Davey as Deputy Director and Wayne Wilson as Treasurer.
In Region III news, Rob Lavielle of Tampa was appointed Region III Director succeeding past Director Carlos Rodriguez. Mr. Lavielle is the past President of the Florida State Soccer Association. Karon Beyer of Georgia was voted Region III Secretary.
Mike Maloney was re-appointed as Region IV Deputy Director and Lori Stoneburner was chosen as the new Region IV Treasurer. Werner Fricker, Jr. and Jim Hamilton were re-assigned as Members At Large. Also as part of the USASA's AGM agenda, the new USASA Implementation Team Leaders were introduced to the membership in attendance at the Council Meeting.
These eight individuals will help shape the future of the USASA by leading eight specific teams. Each team is specific to an objective which will be executed through various plans in order to meet given deadlines. These Leaders will be responsible for the strategic planning process of the organization. There was also a ninth person introduced as the overall implementation manager.
For the complete list of objectives, see www.usasa.com/home/400377.html.

02.05.10 USASA President's Update
February 2, 2010
As we depart for the US Soccer AGM I would first like to wish everyone safe travels and an enjoyable trip to New Orleans. I would also like to follow-up on several items from my January Presidents report as well as give you a further update on the progress with the Summit implementation process.
In my last report I said that a stub budget would be prepared for the period of 9/1/2010 to 12/31/2010. The budget which can be found here is strictly an operating budget based on currently budgeted programming that occurs during this time period. Depending on the outcome of the proposed by-law amendment changing USASA's fiscal year you will be presented with either an eight (8) month budget from 1/1/2011 to 8/31/2011 or an annual budget from 1/1/2011 to 12/31/2011. The budget ultimately presented will reflect the work of the Summit implementation teams. The stub budget simply allows USASA to function through the time period the teams are doing their work.
The Governance Taskforce is up and running and has had several teleconferences; they have requested some additional resources to help them maximize their efforts and results. Brian Darling has been added as a legal consultant to the chair (Mary Pat Bell). Mark Hass will also provide some facilitation via teleconferences. There will be a 2 day meeting of this group in Dallas the weekend of February 20-21 with Mark Hass participating via conference call. Their goal is to have proposed by-laws ready for enactment at the 2010 Midyear Meeting as it relates to the governance structure changes envisioned by the Summit participants.
The eight summit implementation team leaders and the overall implementation manager selections will be announced at the AGM in New Orleans. As called for in the Summit report those 9 individuals will meet the weekend of March 20-21 in Chicago. This meeting will be facilitated in person by Mark Haas. The action plans and timelines will be developed and agreed upon at that meeting. There will be one page business plans developed and posted on the Summit page at USASA.com so the membership can track the progress of the teams.
The EXCO approved a $40,000 budget for these two meetings and Mark Haas's continuing consulting for these two groups. I would point out that the Summit in October came in virtually at budget as can be seen here.
One final budget issue I want to remind you of is the 2009 Ireland Game. The event was budgeted in the 2008/2009 budget year but was held in the 2009/2010 as approved by the Executive Committee. When the financials and the Audit for 2009/2010 are sent out please remember that the money was budgeted and not spent in the prior year. The event was budgeted at $50,000 and the actual expenses were $45,673.00 so we were more than $4,000 under budget.
The IT Taskforce and the Executive Committee has narrowed the field of vendors for Online Registration to three and has had a final round of questions and answers. A request for a best and final offer has been sent to each of the finalists. These are due back by the AGM; the Taskforce will review the final proposals and report their recommendation to the EXCO for final approval. Because there are still three competing vendors there will not be demos at the AGM. Once the EXCO makes the final decision (shortly after the AGM) the Database Implementation team will take over and begin the implementation phase so we can achieve the Summit goal of all members registering all players in the USASA database by 2011.
Again safe travels and I look forward to seeing everyone in New Orleans.
Brooks McCormick,
President

08.06.09 USASA Registration Survey
Dear Association Presidents, Directors and Administrators,
The USASA Technology Task Force invites you to participate in our registration survey. The technology task force was asked to review the contract with our online registration vendor as well as make recommendations on changes or enhancements to our current product. In order to accomplish this, the task force decided that we need to develop a better grasp of the registration process at the state and league levels (i.e. what information is gathered about each player, at what level are certain administrative tasks performed, how are player passes distributed, etc). With this knowledge in hand, we can approach our vendor with a list of functions that we think will best serve our entire membership and their registration needs, thus making them necessary to be included in our online registration system as we go forward.
Therefore, please take a little time to fill out this survey whether you are a current online registration user or not. As stated above, the majority of the questions deal with the registration process itself. We will then look for ways to incorporate these processes into online registration. We also encourage you to pass this survey along to your league presidents and administrators, so that we may also hear from a league's standpoint on how they handle their registrations. Last, for those leagues who do not use computers at any point during their registrations, could you please forward us their contact information so that we may get in touch with them and receive feedback about their own registration needs?
Thank you in advance for your participation and for your assistance in sharing these links with your leagues. Posted below are three versions of the registration survey. Please complete the survey that best matches your affiliation with USASA. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call (317-541-8564) or email me at saddington@usasa.com.

07.07.08 Larry Frisoli
Massachusetts Adult State Soccer Association is mourning the loss of former President Larry Frisoli who passed away on Wednesday, July 2 at the age of 57. Larry was involved in soccer as a player, youth and adult coach, administrator, and commissioner for many decades. He built the foundations of the MASS as we know it today, serving as President of the association for over eight years, and was Region I Director for USASA from 2006 until 2008. Larry had a tremendous impact on state soccer at all levels of soccer and we will miss his enthusiasm, relentless focus on growing the sport, and dedication to providing the best service to the MASS membership.
Outside his soccer interests, Larry was a Boston University and Suffolk University Law School graduate who served variously as Vice-Mayor of Cambridge, Assistant District Attorney for Norfolk County, and President of the Cambridge/Arlington/Belmont Bar Association. In 2006 he stood as Republican Party candidate for Attorney General in Massachusetts. Elected "Lawyer of the Year" by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly in 2000, Larry worked at his private practice where he successfully contested thousands of criminal and personal injury cases. A nationally known trial attorney, he appeared many times on CNN, Court TV, Geraldo Rivera, The O'Reilly Factor, Fox News, CBS, NBC, ABC, and New England Cable News.
Larry is survived by his wife Mary Jo, and twin sons, Michael and Morgan.
Pasquale Puleo, Larry's close friend and former President of MASS, wanted to share some personal thoughts:
"Often we take what's important for granted and don't realize how irreplaceable friends are in our lives. With the departing of Larry, part of us will not be same ever again.
There is more to Larry than the public figure everyone knows. What he cherished in his heart he loved more than his own life. First and foremost, his family: his wife, Mary Jo and his twin sons, Michael and Morgan. These remain the jewels in his life. He lived his best years loving Mary Jo and seeing Michael and Morgan becoming two intelligent, sensitive young men. A favorite image of Mary Jo and Larry is seeing the two of them walking affectionately wrapped together toward the sunset after a soccer pick up game along the Charles River. The warm colors in the horizon were intensified by the glow in Mary Jo's face who was visibly expecting new life to be born: Michael and Morgan. Recently, when they both graduated from Boston University, horribly ill, Larry dragged his body to the graduation ceremony and, with pride, he felt at peace with himself. Later, in the private confines of his home, he found the time to shed a few tears of happiness. We know that both Michael and Morgan will make 'dad' proud.
Larry also cherished his brother Frank with whom he has shared not only the legal practice but also the joy and turmoil of his short life. Larry idealized Frank and admired his commitment to family, friends, and work. His untiring legal energy was energized by the desire to be of service to the 'not so fortunate' people in the Cambridge neighborhood where he grew up.
Lastly, Larry was always there for his friends. There was no limit to his capacity to incorporate other people's problems and to make them feel at ease. One could drop in his office at any time or call late at night, he was always there listening and comforting, "Don't worry!" Throughout his life he cared for the 'oppressed' and fought for their 'rights' against systemic power. The 'ethnic' soccer world and 'Cambridge City Soccer Club,' which he adopted as a second family were his 'concrete' ideal vision of a future society: individuals from all walks of life regardless of creed, education, or background working together for a common goal: affectionately respecting one another and believing in: 'I am because we are!'"
Announcement from the Boston Globe, 7/4/2008 (© 2008 NY Times Co.) Lawrence Walter Frisoli of Cambridge & Belmont, passed away July 2, 2008. Husband of MaryJo (O'Connor). Father of twin sons Michael & Morgan. Brother of Mary Ann (Jim) Harold, Elizabeth (Andrew) Breuder, Frank (Janice) Frisoli, Angela (Matthew) Tomlinson. Nephew of his beloved aunt Joan DeGuglielmo, Frances Tingle & Alice DeGuglielmo. Survived by nieces & nephews. 06.09.08 Special Meeting Reminder
Dear Soccer Organizational Member:
This is a friendly reminder that The Massachusetts Adult State Soccer Association will be holding a special meeting on Monday, June 9, 2008 at 7 PM at the Best Western TLC, 380 Winter Street, Waltham, Massachusetts. This meeting is being called by Cezar Wislocki-Wasecki (MASS President). As per article III, Section 3.1, Constituency, each league may appoint up to two (2) delegates to participate.
The order of business for this meeting shall be as follows:
- Roll call
- Vote for dismissal of the litigation case
- Election of new Treasurer
- Ratification of new committee appointments
- Adjournment
As of now the only candidate that has notified me that is running for the treasurer position is Rich Frongillo. We can still get another candidate at the time of the election with the approval of 60% of the Board of Directors. Furthermore, we have a Proxy Vote from VFA, Vineyard Football Association. Steve Siniscalchi is representing this league in terms of votes. We also have a couple of league delegates that are sending someone else than their President. Steve Siniscalchi received paperwork for this and can present the details at the meeting.
Due to the birth of my daughter I will not be attending the meeting. I hope everyone understands this and never in my wildest dream did I expect her to come tomorrow. She should have arrived 10 days ago per our plan. So much for planning. In my absence Tony Dubrowski will be leading this meeting. I expect this to be a straight forward meeting with no major issues.
In terms of appointments my goal in terms of selection was to reduce our dependency on a few individuals and reduce the amount of work each person has to do. In the past we had some individuals chair 2 or 3 positions. This will no longer be the case. I have also tried to bring in some fresh and younger faces to mix things up with the current generation. I want to make sure we engage the future generation of Massachusetts Adult State Soccer Association and continue on the foundation that has been established. In the "appointment" word attachment I have tried to introduce each chair/appointment. These individuals will also presenting at our semi-annual meeting in October. Furthermore, I still would like to get more of the smaller leagues involved in these appointments. Below are 3 open position that I still need to fill. If you are interested please contact me.
Coaching Director - TBD
Newsletter Editor Director - TBD
Field Safety & Development - TBD
I hope you have a very productive meeting and I will be in touch in the near future. If you have any questions please let me know and I will be happy to assist.
Sincerely,
Cezar Wislocki-Wasecki
President, Massachusetts Adult State Soccer Association

05.15.08 Kiril Kuzmanovski
It is with deep regret that MASS Soccer notes the passing of Kiril "Kiro" Kuzmanovski, who died on Sunday, May 11th, at the age of 55.
Kiro was hugely involved in Massachusetts soccer at all levels as a player, coach, referee, team manager, and league administrator. For 20 years he organized Kiro's Soccer Camp, a youth summer program in Shrewsbury. MASS members will know him best as player/coach for the SAC team in the Central Mass Over 35 Soccer League (CMO35). 04.30.08 Current developments at MASS Soccer, Cezar Wislocki-Wasecki
Dear MASS Organizational Member:
The purpose of this communication is to give you an update on current developments at MASS Soccer. My goal is to have a monthly update for all of our affiliated leagues and members. Eventually I will incorporate this update into our e-newsletter that will be published monthly. We hope to launch our first edition of the newsletter at the end of May. Below are the updates I wanted to share with you. Please feel free to comment on these and share your opinions with the executive board.
- It has been a month since I was elected President for the MASS Adult Soccer Association. I have had countless conversations the past 30 days with soccer administrators, ref coordinators, league presidents etc....and I have only scratched the surface. What I have encountered so far are soccer passionate people with great ideas and thoughts. There are so many good ideas! We will be evaluating and executing each one of them if they make sense. I will keep you posted on the progress of this.
- I was recently informed by Alex Tsalagas that he has decided to step down as a treasurer due to increased workload with his company. I want to personally thank him for all his hard work and commitment to the MASS association for the past several years. I have decided to call a MASS special meeting on June 9 to have an election for his replacement. The executive board could appoint a temporary replacement but it was in my opinion that anyone interested in the treasurer position should be able to run for this office. The second reason for the special meeting is to officially dismiss the lawsuit between MASS Soccer and Jeremy Mordkoff/John Utter. We legally have to get the approval by the BOD to dismiss this. Details and location of the special meeting will be announced tomorrow via e-mail. We will also mail out letters with the same information.
- I am happy to announce that Massachusetts will be hosting the veterans cup in 2009. We are very excited of this opportunity. I want to personally congratulate Pasquale Puleo for putting together a bid that they couldn't refuse at the National level. This is a huge opportunity for us and I want to make sure we execute this event successfully. I have put together a committee that will be the point team in getting this event planned, organized, and executed. This committee will be lead by Julian Dunlop (NEOTHSL) and the team will consist of the following members:
- Pasquale Puleo
- Diana McKee (Eastern Mass Women's Soccer League)
- Fran Mercier (CMO35)
- Andy Weiss (Ref Committee)
- Jimmy Kaloynides (NEOTHSL)
- John Burrill (Executive Director, MASS Youth Soccer Association)
- I am happy to announce that within a few days we will have a new website. The initial site will be a prototype and we will make additional updates in the coming months. I have created a new position called "Technology Director" that will manage all technology and infrastructure developments for the association. Paul Barrow will be our new director for this position. He has extensive technical experience and he will be an asset when dealing with website, database (registration), and software related issues.
- As newly-elected President, it is my responsibility to nominate members for service on the various MASS Soccer committees and present these choices to the Board of Directors for final approval. As part of this process, I am currently reviewing and evaluating all current committee chair appointments. I believe we need to increase the number of volunteers we have working for the Association at this level if we are to achieve success in the coming years. Therefore I intend to diversify the structure of our committees by limiting the number of chair appointments one person can hold. Anyone interested in heading up a committee should contact Cezar Wislocki at . All inquires are welcome and we encourage everyone to participate at this level. I will have all appointments announced at the special meeting on June 9.
- Starting in June we will be holding a meeting every other month to review the status of all committees. I will be asking each committee chair to attend this meeting and present a status report with news, issues, and progress to the Executive Board and all other committee members. I'm anxious for us to start working together and solving issues as a team. These meetings will occur in Watertown in the 4th week of each even-numbered month. Directions and times will be announced very soon.
- Coach for the Select Team? Those who are interested should contact Jim Antonakas immediately for an interview. Email or phone 617-593-4467.
- Jim Antonakas the Men's Select Team coach will be conducting trial outs for the team. Anyone interested should come for a try-out on the following dates:
- Friday May 9th, 7:30pm, Dilboy Field, Somerville
- Tuesday May 13th 7:30pm, Danehy Park #4, Cambridge
- A friendly reminder that league payments are due within 30 days of your league's start date.
Please feel free to share your opinion with me or the executive board. If you would like to have something added to next month's update please let me know. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know I will be happy to assist.
Cezar Wislocki-Wasecki
President, MASS Adult Soccer Association
