The New England Luso Soccer Association (NELASA) is a Mass Soccer affiliated league rich with history and culture dating back more than two decades. Notable clubs include Nos Bandera, Tabanka and Fidjos Terra among others. 2016, however, was the year of Raiz CV - a club made up of dedicated managers, young talent and experienced players who worked together to win both the league title and the league cup. Raiz CV accumulated 6 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses for a total of 20 points which was good enough to edge second place Tarrafal FC (5 wins 3 draws and 2 losses for 18 points) for the league championship. The league cup final came down to the same two clubs as well and it was Raiz CV yet again lifting the trophy after a hard fought 2-1 victory. Antonio Tavares, league President, has a league motto - "a league is as strong as the teams which make it up" - and Raiz CV and Tarrafal FC  are surely setting a good example. League Vice President Joao Pereira shared with Mass Soccer that there is a lot of exciting work going on behind the scenes of NELASA, including an effort to bring the National Soccer team of Cabo Verde to the United States in the near future. Congrats to Raiz CV, Tarrafal FC and all the managers, players and board of directors for a successful 2016 NELASA season!
