Torres FC (formally Boa Vista FC) defeated four-time O30 Mengel Cup Champions, Loco Gunners in a nail-bitter of a state final match!

It was Torres that went up early, with two quick goals, as seen here:

Both goals were dangerously placed crosses that resulted in points on the board for Torres FC.

Although taken aback by the early deficit, the Gunners quickly adjusted, regained their footing and pressed forward with two quick goals of their own, as seen here:

No more goals were scored for the remainder of the half and the game stayed tied at 2-2 until the seventy-third minute when Torres FC player Vander Bellettini delivered this dagger:

With the 3-2 victory Torres FC becomes the 2023-2024 O30 Mengel Cup State Champions and advance to the USASA Region I tournament in April.  More information to come after the regional draw in February.

Scheduling window for each round:

• Quarterfinal: November 4th - November 5th
• Semifinals: November 6th – 12th

Scheduling flexibility and notes:

• If team/s are involved in the OTHSL finals, then the state final will be postponed until Sunday, December 3rd.
• Midweek games are highly encouraged but both teams need to agree on the night.  Fields will need lights for weeknight games.

Massachusetts State Cup Rules

It is the responsibility of all competing team to please review.

1. Teams are scheduled by a blind draw that is held by the State Registrar and verified by the Cup Commissioner. 

2. Semifinal and final games will follow the published bracket. Mass Soccer will provide a field for the state finals in National Cup Tournaments. 

3. In the opening rounds of the competition, the team scheduled as home team, must provide a field. 

a)  When scheduling your games, keep in mind that: 

• Saturday games must kickoff at 10am or later. 

• Sunday games must kickoff at noon or later. 

• For games starting at 3pm or later, the field must have lights. 

• Consent from your opponent is needed for games kicking off after 6pm. 

• Mid-week games are welcomed and encouraged if both teams agree. 

b) Home team must confirm the game details to the Commissioners no less than 7 days prior to the scheduled game date. 

USASA’s Over-30 Cup Competition is named for Gerhard Mengel, a former National Cup Commissioner. Annually, Mass Soccer organizes a state tournament to get a state champion which will have the option to represent Massachusetts in USASA Region 1 competition in late April-May. Region I Finals are typically held in mid-June.

The USASA Region 1 champion will advance to compete in the National Cups Final Four.  Dates for the national finals will be announced after the USASA AGM. (Late September of each year)
