Massachusetts Adult Soccer

Atletico Boston was on a team out to prove themselves in the 2023-2024 season...  first earning promotion to the top tier of the Bay State Soccer League (BSSL)  while also capturing the 2023 BSSL McKenzie Cup.

Coming into this year's Werner Fricker Open Cup, they started their run with defeating previous BSSL Division 2 side, Inter Boston FC, by a narrow 1-0 margin.  In the quarterfinals, they defeated the two-time Fricker Cup state champions, Providence City FC.  Dear we say, they pulled off their first cup-set with another narrow win recording a 2-1 victory.

In the semifinal round, they faced off against the defending 2023 Fricker Cup champions and veteran top of the BSSL table, Loco Gunners. They delivered yet another cup-set, defeating the Gunners 2-0.

In the state final, they played Sete de Setembro.  Sete was the runner up in last year's tournament and also a finalist in this past fall's State Amateur Cup.  They were no strangers to state finals and were aiming to capture their first state title.

Sete scored first in the state final match but Atletico almost immediately equalized.  Then Sete's Gabriel Ganzer added a second personal and team goal to put Sete up at the half, 2-1.  

The game remained this way until the 88', when Peggy Ngatcha equalized with his second goal of the match to force the game to PKs.

In PKs, Atletico's keeper made the game winning save (as seen in video below).

Atletico advanced to USASA regionals semifinals. They drew the away seed and had to travel to NYC to play powerhouse Lansdowne Yonkers FC (two-time national champions).  Atletico traveled to New York with a short bench and held the Lansdowne Bhoys scoreless through 84' when they conceded the first goal of the match. The Bhoys were able to ice the match with an open net goal in stoppage and they will advance to the regional finals.

Congrats to Atletico Boston for a great run in this Cup and all their league success.  We look forward to seeing you in the Champions Cup this coming summer too!
