Game Recap:

This game was exciting from the opening minutes! Both teams with early opportunities, like these:

20' Brockton opportunity

But it was Brockton that was able to net one first with this NILTON Goal!

Brockton entered the 2nd half of play with a 1-0 lead, then Nilton added his second second goal of the game in the 48' with this Brockton's Second Goal.

61' Freedom scored a goal making it 2-1 Brockton.

79' Freedom had a corner kick opportunity which was saved by defender and goalie as seen here: Brockton Goal Line Save

However, despite Brockton pressure in Freedoms defending half, NY was able to counter in the closing minute of the game.  Brockton goalie made the initial save but Freedoms were about to score on the rebounded ball.

In extra time, Brockton had opportunities, like this: 98' Brockton Cross, however with no goals score in the extra time, this game went to PKs.

Brockton put away all 5 of their PKs and goalie made beautiful diving save to secure Brockton's spot in the USASA Region 1 semifinal round!  Brockton will travel to Yonkers NY, where the face Lansdowne Bhoys.

USASA Opening Round: Newtown vs Brockton

NEWTOWN CT, April 17, 2021

Brockton travelled to Connecticut yesterday to get a resounding win (0-5) against the defending champs Newtown Pride FC, in the National Amateur Cup Region 1 first round game.

Elizandro (Zadu) Cardoso opened the score with a wonderful left foot screamer to the top left corner. Zadu went on early with a man of the match performance. Erickson (Ricky) Alves headed home the 2nd goal from a corner taken by Rudney (Rudy) Delgado. Nilton Teixeira scored the third right before half time on the best play of the game after three long passes. Dario opened the ball from right to left to Zadu, who sent a long pass back to the right side to Ronalo Diniz to assist Nilton with a cross back to the right side for Nilton to head home on the 2nd post.

Second half Brockton did not take their feet off the gas and continued with the same intensity to score two more goals and guarantee the clean sheet. Zadu scored his second from a cross coming from the other man of the match candidate Ronaldinho Diniz. Pepe Vieira who came into the game on the second half, scored perhaps the best goal of the game from outside the 18 yard box to the top right corner, to mark his return to the club in style.

Since the disappointing UPSL National Tournament in Atlanta, Brockton has won 5 straight games in all competitions (BSSL and Amateur Cup) scoring 26 goals.

Brockton will host Pancyprian Freedoms from New York in Region 1 quarterfinal on May 1st. For Brockton this is a redemption game and an opportunity to finish an unfinish business from two seasons ago when Brockton lost at home to the Freedoms in the Open Cup 3rd round regional qualifier. Brockton went down one goal early in the game but controlled the game for most part before the referee called the game off in the 54th minute because of heavy rain.
