EMWSL Sidekicks Crowned Finalist in USASA National Amateur Cup
Congratulations to the 2021 USASA Region 1 Women's Open/Amateur National Finalists, Sidekicks!!
On August 20, 2021 the EMWSL Sidekicks traveled to Washington, Michigan to represent USASA Region 1 in the Champions of Regions tournament. In the semifinals, they played the Pan World Women of Utah, representing Region 4. Both teams netted a goal in regulation, including a beautiful header assist from Liz Carlos to Julia Favorito for the Sidekicks. In PKs, Sidekicks goalie, Casey Halle came up with a clutch save along with Natasha Friedman icing the last PK to advance to finals.
In the finals, the Sidekicks faced the home region's representative, the Rockford Raptors. Despite going down two goals, early in the game, the Sidekicks fought back and equalized with many scoring opportunities late in the game. However, it was the Raptors that scored the game winning goal with 4 minutes remaining thus capturing the national title.
