2022 US Futsal Regional in Atlantic City, NJ

We are proud of these Mass Soccer/EMWSL players for their augural participation in the 2022 US Futsal Regional Championship in Atlantic City.

As mentioned below, this past December, Mass Soccer
started a women's futsal training program with the goal of sending one team to regionals! We blew that goal away by sending 2 teams - Safira Blue and Red. Both teams performed well and continued to improve throughout the tournament. In the final game of the round robin, Safira Red team defeated the reigning women’s champions, Charles County, by a score of 4-3 and just missed advancing to finals on tiebreaker points.

Huge thank you to Ivan and the Safira organization for supporting this opportunity and Coach Andre for sharing his time, knowledge, and passion for the game. To see all the hard work from practices come together was such a huge reward!

Finally, big thank you and congrats to this the 2022 tourney players: Autumn Scanlon, Bethany Rennich, Ali Boreiko, Brie Duseau, Alex Rowland, Angela Cornacchio, Kellen Matthews, Liz Emmert, Maeli Cherry, Liz Anderson, Jen Harding, Rachel Wadkins, Rebecca Brooke, Hope Perry, and Liz McQuilkin.

USA Select Team vs Argentina National Team

The Argentian National Women's Futsal Team played three showcase games during the tournament. They displayed outstanding team play and went undefeated and unscored upon during their Atlantic City Tour. They played the USA Select Team in their second and third exhibition game.

Assistant coaching for the US National Select Team was our own state coach, Andre Ferrier. We are also proud to share that three of our Mass Soccer women were asked to practice and play for the USA National Select team. Bethany Rennich and Manu Ferreira took to the floor in the third match and represented the USA, not to mention signed autographs and took selfies with fans post game!

Mass Soccer Welcomes Women's Futsal

This past December, Andre Ferreira, Mass Soccer State Coach, started a new futsal training program for female adult soccer players.  Many of those in our women's leagues have not had the opportunity to try futsal and even those who have, currently do not have a women's league to play in.  Andre recognized that this would be a good opportunity to expand futsal interest and then collaborated with his Safira partners to create this program.

Every Wednesday night from 7:30-9pm at The Mill Works in Westford, this new training group gets together to work on footwork, passing, shooting, court awareness, and general futsal strategies with a scrimmage at the end to put everything together.

Anyone is welcome to come to practices and join in.  "Presently, we have 34 practice or tournament players from six different EMWSL teams including: Dynamis, SideKicks, Greater Boston Kickbacks, Opus, Azzurri, and Classic Crush" stated Liz McQuilkin, Mass Soccer Operations Manager and EMWSL VP. "This is a great opportunity to expose our players to futsal and give them more winter playing options. I am seeing first-hand how much fun futsal is, but equally important, how much it improves your soccer game. The footwork and keeping your composure while playing in small spaces, plus getting used to losing the ball and immediately having to refocus to get it back, has helped my own game in a short period of time.

"This is only the start of futsal opportunities for women.  We want to be able to offer training to anyone interested in playing or even learning futsal for the first time." added Ferreira.

If you are interested in joining this training program, please reach out to Mass State Coach, Andre at Coach@Mass-Soccer.org. or Operations Manager Liz at Operations@Mass-Soccer.org
