Hanging up the cleats - Reflections of a retiring soccer player

To all,

With disappointment, I am hanging them up after 37 years. Having managed and played for the Marblehead teams during that time through the 30's, 40's and 50's, I had the pleasure to interact with many other managers, Division Directors and of course hundreds of players. The organization should be extremely proud of sustaining such a high quality and respected league from it's inception back in 1980.

I will miss most the relationships I have developed with my teammates, my opponents and the referees. Hanging out after the games and grilling, often with opponents, after a hard fought match showed the true character of the guys and the love of the game. We become family in many ways, working our way through marriages, births, injuries, losses, victories, championships and of course the hardest loss of all, death. There is an underlying respect out there on the pitch that lives on through that love of the game.

You all are appreciated by us players and I am sure you don't hear it enough. Know it's true. I wish all of you throughout the OTHSL the very best in health and happiness moving forward and I look forward to finding my way back to a few games and playoffs down the line as a fan.

With warm regards,

Steve from Marblehead
