June 17,2018: Ukrainain Amercan Sports Center - USASA Mengel Cup Region 1 Final

Our Warehouse Gunners were the first to strike in their match against regional powerhouse Christo's FC from Maryland.  They were able to net a goal at the 35min mark of the first half and held the lead into the last 30 second of the match when Christo's scored on a cross that ended up a goal. (Christos was playing with 10 at the time due to a send off in the 86th minute). The match headed to OT.

In the first OT, Gunners had a beautiful shot that hit the underside of the bar and spun out.  The match remained 1-1 at the end of OT and headed for PKs.

PK results:

1-1 after 2 rounds of PKs - with each team missing one.

Gunner's went up 3-2 after 4 rounds. Nice GK save lead to 3-3 after five rounds.

Gunner's player missed on the 6th and Christos finished...

4-3 Christos FC in the 6th round of PKs.

Congratulations to our BSSL Warehouse Gunners for an exciting Mengel Cup run.  We look forward to your next national cup bid!

2018 USASA Mengel Cup Highlights

Mass Soccer's Warehouse Gunners are one of seven USASA Region I teams competing in the 2018 Gerhard Mengel Cup. The competition is USASA's O30 cup tournament, it dates back to 1984 and is named after Gerhard Mengel, a former National Cup Commissioner.

On Sunday, April 29 the Warehouse Gunners defeated New Jersey's Polonia Wallington SC in a tight quarterfinal match. Both of Gunner's goals were scored by Marty Galvin who first struck in the 24th minute and later in the 65th minute. Polonia made things interesting when they netted a neat header off a corner kick with 15 minutes remaining. However, the Gunners stood strong and held on to a 2-1 victory to book a ticket into the semifinals on May 20th where they will travel to the winner of Pancyprian Freedoms (NY) vs. Danbury United (CT).

The Warehouse Gunners' victory means Mass Soccer teams are 3-0-0 in National Cup competitions this year, as Safira FC advanced in both the USASA Werner Fricker Cup and USASA National Amateur Cup. BSSL's Kendall Wanderers are gearing up for their debut in the US Open Cup on May 9th where they take on PDL's Seacoast United Phantoms. Mass Soccer clubs have been victorious in round 1 of the Open Cup in past 2 years with GPS Omens defeating Boston City FC (NPSL) in 2017 and Southie FC besting Seacoast United Phantoms (PDL) in 2016.

Nice cross...

Great Saves!
