2018 Qualifier Tournament Finals: Highlights

December 2, 2018: BackBay Fens Roberto Clemente Field, Boston, MA - MIT FC defeated Middlesex Young Gun in the USASA Amateur Cup Qualifier Tournament with a score 5-1.

MIT came out on the field ready to play and scored quickly with a goal from captain, Toni Forner. Rico added a second MIT goal shortly thereafter and at the 25 minute mark, Wes added a third MIT goal.  After MIT's third goal, Middlesex seemed to better anticipate MIT's attack and adjusted. The score remained 3-0 though halftime.

It was Middlesex who scored first in the 2nd half when striker, #30 Ocane Williams took a ball straight up the middle and angled a rocket of a shot from just inside 18 yard line past MIT goalie. This coupled with a goal line save my Middlesex's outside defender "Shorty", lit a spark for the Middlesex squad. They intensified their speed of play and challenged MIT.

However, a Middlesex own goal off a deflected Toni Forner shot put MIT up 4-1. The potential for Middlesex to continue their comeback seemed insurmountable. Fornier added a 5th MIT goal with only minutes remaining cementing the victory for his team.

MIT will face Mosteiros FM in USASA Amateur Cup State Final next weekend, December 9th 1:15pm at BackBay Fens.

Game 2: Boston Siege vs Middlesex Young Gun

This game started quickly for Middlesex! Just 3 minutes in, a quick spark on the left by Middlesex finds the feet of a winger. He moved past RB Dennis Torres, and finds a bit of space under GK  Smissame. GOAL Middlesex!!  Then, five minutes later, Middlesex doubled the lead when they convert on a free kick from 20 yards out.

But Boston Siege would not be deterred... they had a shot off the crossbar at the 13 minute mark and then a gorgeous header opportunity that Middlesex goalie was just able to push wide at the 27 minute mark.

Shortly after the save, Middlesex forward is able to chip a 30 yarder over Siege goalie and added a third goal. Things looked bleak for Siege as they headed into half time down 3 goals.

But, Siege would not go away. They came out of the half on fire with more opportunities and crisper play.  49 minutes in, Siege was awarded a free kick at the 30 yard mark and in a goal line scramble, Siege's Fidel Martinez was able to sneak one past the Middlesex keeper. 7 minutes later, Siege's Abelito finds the back of the net after Middlesex defenses is unable to clear a rebound off a brilliant save by their goalie. A Siege comeback seemed to be in the works.

From the 60 minute mark on, the ball seemed to reside in the Middlesex defending end, but Siege is unable to convert.  Middlesex was able to add a 4th goal on a cross artfully headed in by Middlesex forward. Although Siege had more opportunities in the remaining time left, they just couldn't put anymore away. Middlesex secured the victory and the remaining spot in the Amateur Cup Qualifying tourney.

Middlesex Young Guns will face MIT in the qualifier finals on December 2nd, 12:30pm, at Back Bay Fens in Boston.
