2018 USASA Fricker Cup State Champions

Safira falls to Jackson Lions 1-2 in Regional Semifinals

On May 6th at Veteran's Memorial Stadium, in the regional semifinals, Safira hosted Jackson Lions FC, a club from Jackson, NJ . Although, Jackson Lions scored first at the 17 min mark, Safira was able to score an equalizing goal 6 minutes later when a shot from Junior Alencar was knocked down by the Lion's goal keeper and Safira's Stephan Teixeira crashed the net and tapped the rebound in.  The game stayed tied until the Lions capitalized on a opportunity resulting from with direct kick.  Although Safira goal keeper made the initial save, the Lions striker retrieved the rebound and passed to oncoming midfield who deposited a low shot just out of the reach of Safira 's sliding goalie. Safira had several scoring opportunities in the closing moments of the game, keeping dedicated fans on their feet cheering until the final whistle blew.

Although Safira's Fricker Cup run has come to a close, we wish them the best of luck in the USASA Region 1 Amateur Cup next Sunday

April 8, 2018: Safira defeated Kendall Wanders 3-0 in the USASA Fricker Cup State Finals at East Boston Stadium. 

From the opening minutes of the game, Kendall controlled possession well with strong pressure on Safira's defensive line, but the match went scoreless for the first half.

Safira struck at the 61st minute mark with a goal from Hugo Bomfin. Kendall fought back and had several opportunities in the Safira end, but the stellar goal keeping from Safira's Vilela, kept Kendall scoreless. 

In the 89th minute, Safira's midfield intercepted a Kendall pass and served Junior Alencar breaking down the right sideline going 1v1 with a Kendall defender. Junior's outstanding footwork got him just enough separation to get a shot past the defender and he placed it in the upper left corner.  Shortly thereafter, Junior assisted to Hugo the 3rd goal of the game in stoppage time.

It was a well played game by both clubs and the heated action kept the fans and spectators warm on a windy and cool afternoon at the Stadium.

This victory also gave Safira it's 2nd Cup of the season.  We wish them the best of luck in the Amateur and Fricker Cup Regional games later this month.

Fricker Cup Semifinal Results

Semifinal #1: Kendall Wanderers defeated Boston Olympiakos 7-0

Semifinal #2: Safira defeated Sports Identity (aka Mystic River) 2-0 

USASA Fricker Cup: Quarter final updates

Sports Identity defeated Boston Rovers 2-0.

Safira defeated GPS Omen's in OT, by a score of 4-3.

Boston Olympiakos defeats Boston Seige in PKS.  The game went into OT with a tied score 1-1 and no goals were scored in the overtime periods.  Boston Olympiakos out scored Boston Seige in PKs: 4-2.

Kendall Wanderers defeated Juve Pro 3-1 under the lights at ForeKicks in Taunton.
