Safira vs Boston Olympiakos

Champions Cup Quarterfinals: Safira vs Boston Olympiakos

Our final match up of the quarterfinals featured OTHSL O30 champions, Safira FC verses MSSL's champs, Boston Olympiakos. Although, Boston Olympiakos played short handed, they would not be deterred and put forth a valiant effort to challenge the defending 2017 Champions Cup winners, Safira.

Early in the game, Safira's #10 Pablo was able to put a direct kick from outside the 18 in the back of the net for Safira's first goal of the day. Safira followed up by adding 2 more consecutive goals, but Boston Oympiakos refused to go away.  In what was  "ESPN Top 10 Plays of the Week" material, #11 Rafael Santos artistically sent a rocket of a shot past the Safira keeper, making an emphatic statement that Olympiakos was not going away!

Safira followed up shortly thereafter with another goal with 10 mins left in the half, but Olympiakos Ilass Hasnaoui scored again to keep his team in the game. However, with 1 minute left in the half, Safira's #99 Guibson Magalhaes netted the 5th goal giving Safira a 3 goal lead at halftime.

Although Boston Olympiakos continued to fight into the second half, they were greatly weakened by an injury and had to face the defending champs with only 7 men left on the field.  Safira's patience and passing led to more scoring opportunities earning them the final spot in the Champions Cup semifinals, where they will face off against Iraq FC next Saturday at 1pm at Danehy Park.
