July 20th, 2019 - Our second opening round match of the 2019 Champions Cup featured New England Champions League champ, Mass United vs Central Mass Twilight Soccer League champ, Team Iraq (newly renamed Al Zawraa).
It was Team Iraq that jumped out to an early lead with a goal from #12 Liren Halle. Mass United answered with an impressive 70 yard take by #23 Razak Boateng. Goal can be viewed here: Boateng Goal
Team Iraq continued to press Mass United and had several other scoring opportunities in the first half some which can be viewed here:
In the second half, Team Iraq continued to put pressure on the Mass United defense. It was #10 Sinan Albayati who scored the go ahead goal to make it 2-1.
10 minutes later Team Iraq was awarded a PK. Shot was taken and buried in the back of the net by #14 Laszo Dorogi and can be seen here: PK Goal
Due to the soaring temps late in the game, Mass United brought in back up goalie, who made some impressive saves as show here:
With 5 minutes remaining, Iraq team manager, Ahmed Mohammed, subbed in to give his minor injury a test run for next week's match. Within minutes of stepping on the field, he made a cut back to receive a corner at the top of the 18, and served up a perfectly placed cross, which teammate Liren Halle headed into the back of the net and can be seen here:
With the 4-1 victory, Team Iraq aka Al Zawraa FC will advance to face Kendall Wanderers in the quarterfinals.
