Massachusetts Adult Soccer

On a sunny day in Shrewsbury, MA the Mengel Cup Regional quaterfinal between Safira FC and NY Pancyprian Freedoms kicked off. It was a heated first half with an early goal by the NY team with a quick opportunity for Safira soon after.

The game went back and forth from there, with near misses and great saves on both sides of the field. At half time, the score was 1-0 with Pancyprian Freedoms in the lead. An additional 25 minutes later, after another round of fierce play, the NY Freedoms team scored yet again, going up 2-0. 

The game seemed heavily in Pancyprian Freedoms' hands at that point in time, but the tide was about to change. In the 84th minute, Safira scored a goal making the score 2-1 NY with only 5 minutes and stoppage time remaining. Then again, in the 90th minute, Safira was awarded a penalty kick evening the score 2-2 and sending the game into overtime. 

With two 15-minute periods of overtime ahead, Safira FC and NY Pancyprian Freedoms headed back onto the field. After the whistle blew, again the teams went back and forth and after 15 minutes, then Ny broke through and scored a goal. Later, in the 2nd half of overtime, the Freedoms scored again after a ball was cut back at the top left of the pentaly box and shot passed the right side of the keeper.  Final score of the game was Safira FC 2, NY Pancyprian Freedoms 4.
