October 18, 2020: In just their second Amateur Cup tournament appearance, Boston Siege hosted a storied veteran GPS Omens squad in the opening round of the US Amateur Cup at the Harry Del Russo Stadium in Revere.
Siege's sustained upbeat tempo play and Omen's tough defensive positioning made for exciting first half of play. There were many goal opportunities, but the score remained tied 0-0 until late in the first half. In the 43rd minute of play, Boston Siege won a free kick from outside the penalty box. Using his right foot, Boston Siege's Brayan Alvizures went near post and hit side netting sending Siege up 1-0 into halftime.
Early in the second half, Siege was awarded a PK for a foul in the box. Abel Alfaro was able to covert this kick past a diving Omens goalie, giving Siege their second goal of the game.
Siege's continuous pressure and speed provided two more goals in the second half of play, but the Omen's effort and attitude kept them well in the game. With about 10 minutes and stoppage time remaining, a breakaway finessed in to the right of the keeper by Dennis Torres on a pass from Hugo Erazo put Siege up 5-0.
Even down by a good differential of goals, the Omens finished strong with pressure in the Siege defensive end and multiple shots inside the 18 yard box. If not for some fantastic saves by the Siege goalie, the score may have been more level.
As the final whistle blew, Siege held onto the shutout and will advance to the quarterfinal round where they will face United Africa next Sunday.
